While a few raced to Gold wow classic level 60 and raid boss glory, the others were content to take their time, but the feeling of community which poured from those first couple of days were able to recapture the original magic of the programmer's iconic MMORPG. World of Warcraft has won plenty of Golden Joysticks awards at its time, but to maintain a game flourishing for years and after that alter the game so many years after is something very few other programmers could ever do.

Classic genres such as Anno 1800's city builders and Age of Wonders: Planetfall's 4X strategy found themselves competing with emerging formats thanks to Slay the Spire's roguelike deckbuilding and Teamfight Tactics' autobattler. Global programmers like Riot Games and Ubisoft sat alongside Cartoon teams such as Inkle (Heaven's Vault) and Terry Cavanaugh (Dicey Dungeons).

But after over a decade of expansions, upgrades, and storytelling which sometimes rent its whole world asunder, Blizzard rolled the clock back 15 years. In doing this it recreated an adventure that otherwise may have been lost and making World of Warcraft history.
